Ukraine offers a rich cultural and historical experience, making it an appealing destination for some Greek travelers. With around 2 million Greeks traveling abroad annually, a portion may find Ukraine an interesting choice for their trips.
Ukraine is currently considered less safe for tourists compared to Greece. According to the Global Peace Index, Ukraine ranks 156th out of 160 countries, while Greece ranks 40th. Additionally, the murder rate in Ukraine is significantly higher at 3.8 per 100,000 people, compared to Greece's 0.9. Crime indices from the Global Organized Crime Index also indicate that Ukraine faces greater challenges with organized crime, with higher scores in various categories, such as mafia groups (Ukraine 6.0 vs. Greece 3.0) and state crime (Ukraine 8.0 vs. Greece 7.5). While tourists from Greece may still visit Ukraine, they should exercise caution and stay informed about the current safety situation.
