Ukraine offers a rich cultural and historical experience, making it an appealing destination for some Cypriot travelers. With around 500,000 Cypriots traveling abroad annually, a portion may find Ukraine an interesting option for their trips.
Ukraine's safety for tourists, particularly those coming from Cyprus, is a concern based on various safety rankings and crime statistics. Cyprus is ranked 11th in safety while walking alone at night among 40 European countries, whereas Ukraine lacks comparable data. According to the Global Peace Index, Ukraine is ranked 156th out of 160 countries, indicating significantly lower safety levels than Cyprus, which is ranked 86th. In terms of murder rates, Cyprus has a rate of 1.3 per 100,000 people, while Ukraine's rate is higher at 3.8. Female murder rates also show a disparity, with Cyprus at 1.1 and Ukraine at 1.9. The Global Organized Crime Index further highlights the differences: Cyprus scores better across various categories, including mafia groups (3.5 vs. 6.0), crime networks (5.0 vs. 7.0), and state crime (4.0 vs. 8.0). Ukraine generally has higher scores, indicating greater levels of organized crime and insecurity. Overall, while some tourists may still choose to visit Ukraine, it is advisable to exercise caution and stay informed about safety conditions.
