Ukraine offers a rich cultural and historical experience, making it an appealing destination for some Canadian travelers. With 5.0 million Canadians traveling abroad annually, a portion may find Ukraine an intriguing option for their trips.
Ukraine is currently considered less safe for tourists compared to Canada. According to the Global Peace Index, Ukraine ranks 156th out of 160 countries, while Canada is ranked 11th. The murder rate in Ukraine is 3.8 per 100,000 people, compared to Canada’s rate of 2.1. Additionally, various crime indices indicate higher levels of organized crime and state crime in Ukraine, with scores indicating more severe issues compared to Canada. For example, Ukraine scores 8.0 for state crime, while Canada scores 2.0. Overall, while some tourists may still visit Ukraine, it is important for travelers to be aware of the safety concerns and to exercise caution.
