Ukraine offers a rich cultural and historical experience, making it an appealing destination for some Bulgarian travelers. With 4.1 million Bulgarians traveling abroad annually, a portion may find Ukraine an interesting option for their trips.
Ukraine's safety for tourists, including those from Bulgaria, presents notable concerns. While Bulgaria ranks 26th in the Global Peace Index and has a low murder rate of 1.3 per 100,000 people, Ukraine is significantly lower at 156th with a murder rate of 3.8. Crime statistics indicate higher risks in Ukraine, particularly in organized crime and state-related crime, with indices showing Ukraine scoring worse than Bulgaria across various categories. For instance, Ukraine's score for mafia groups is 6.0 compared to Bulgaria's 4.5, indicating a more significant presence of organized crime. Overall, while tourism is possible in Ukraine, travelers should remain cautious and informed about the current safety situation.
