Türkiye is an appealing destination for many British travelers, thanks to its rich cultural heritage and diverse natural landscapes. As a significant player in global tourism, it attracts millions of visitors annually. With 19.1 million Britons traveling abroad each year, a notable portion may find Türkiye to be a compelling choice for their travels.
Türkiye presents a mixed safety profile for tourists from the United Kingdom. According to safety rankings, Türkiye is 31st out of 40 countries for safety while walking alone at night, which is better than the UK’s ranking of 37th. However, Türkiye ranks 137th out of 160 countries on the Global Peace Index, significantly lower than the UK’s 34th position. In terms of crime statistics, the murder rate in Türkiye is 2.5 per 100,000 people, compared to the UK's 1.0. Female murder rates also reflect this trend, with Türkiye at 1.0 and the UK at 0.6. The Global Organized Crime Index indicates that Türkiye faces challenges with organized crime, scoring higher (worse) than the UK in several categories, including mafia groups (Türkiye 8.0 vs. UK 4.0) and state crime (Türkiye 9.0 vs. UK 3.0). Overall, while Türkiye has certain areas that are relatively safe, tourists should remain aware of the crime landscape and take necessary precautions.
