Türkiye is an appealing destination for German travelers, offering a rich blend of culture and history that reflects the intersection of East and West. With millions of international visitors each year, its diverse natural landscapes and cultural heritage attract a segment of the 99.5 million Germans who travel abroad annually.
Türkiye presents a mixed safety profile for tourists from Germany. In terms of walking alone at night, Türkiye ranks 31st out of 40 countries, which is comparable to Germany's 29th position. However, the Global Peace Index places Türkiye at 137th out of 160 countries, significantly lower than Germany's 20th rank. When examining crime statistics, Türkiye has a higher murder rate at 2.5 per 100,000 people compared to Germany's 0.8. Female murder rates are also higher in Türkiye (1.0) than in Germany (0.8). The Global Organized Crime Index indicates that Türkiye faces challenges with organized crime, scoring worse than Germany in various categories, such as mafia groups (Türkiye 8.0 vs. Germany 5.0) and state crime (Türkiye 9.0 vs. Germany 2.0). In summary, while Türkiye has some areas of safety comparable to Germany, it also faces higher crime rates and challenges with organized crime, making it essential for tourists to remain vigilant and informed while traveling.
