Türkiye offers a rich blend of culture and history, making it an appealing destination for Belgian travelers. With 8.6 million Belgians traveling abroad annually, a portion of them is likely to be drawn to Türkiye's unique attractions and diverse landscapes.
Türkiye presents a mixed safety profile for tourists from Belgium. In terms of walking alone at night, Türkiye ranks 31st out of 40 countries, making it safer than Belgium, which is ranked 39th. However, according to the Global Peace Index, Türkiye is ranked 137th out of 160 countries, while Belgium is much safer at 16th place. Regarding crime statistics, Türkiye has a higher murder rate of 2.5 per 100,000 people compared to Belgium's 1.1. Additionally, the rates of female murders are also higher in Türkiye (1.0) than in Belgium (0.2). The Global Organized Crime Index indicates that Türkiye faces more challenges with organized crime, with higher scores in categories like mafia groups (8.0 for Türkiye vs. 3.0 for Belgium) and state crime (9.0 for Türkiye vs. 2.0 for Belgium). In summary, while Türkiye may be safer for walking alone at night compared to Belgium, it has higher overall crime rates and challenges with organized crime, which tourists should consider when planning their visit.
