Türkiye offers a unique blend of culture and history, making it an appealing destination for international tourists. With its rich heritage and diverse landscapes, it attracts millions of visitors each year. Among the 300,000 Australians traveling abroad annually, a notable number may find Türkiye to be an intriguing choice for their travels.
Türkiye presents a moderate safety profile for tourists, particularly those coming from Australia. According to safety rankings, Türkiye is 31st out of 40 European countries for safety while walking alone at night, with no specific data available for Australia. The Global Peace Index ranks Türkiye 137th out of 160 countries, significantly lower than Australia, which ranks 19th. In terms of crime statistics, Türkiye has a higher murder rate of 2.5 per 100,000 people compared to Australia’s 0.7. Female murder rates also reflect this disparity, with Türkiye at 1.0 and Australia at 0.4. The Global Organized Crime Index indicates that Türkiye faces challenges with organized crime, ranking higher in various categories compared to Australia. For example, Türkiye has a mafia groups index of 8.0 (Australia: 5.0) and a state crime index of 9.0 (Australia: 2.0). Overall, while Türkiye is a popular destination, tourists should remain aware of their surroundings and exercise caution, especially in certain areas.
