Thailand is a compelling destination for many Malaysians due to its vibrant culture, warm hospitality, rich history, delicious cuisine, and beautiful beaches. While it attracts a diverse range of international visitors, its overall ranking in tourist arrivals is modest. Nonetheless, a significant segment of Malaysia's 34 million population finds Thailand appealing.
Thailand is generally considered a relatively safe destination for tourists, including those from Malaysia. According to the Global Peace Index, Thailand ranks 73rd out of 160 countries, which is lower than Malaysia's ranking of 10th. In terms of crime statistics, the murder rate in Thailand is 4.9 per 100,000 people, significantly higher than Malaysia's rate of 0.7. Additionally, the Global Organized Crime Index indicates that while Thailand faces challenges with organized crime, it has a lower score for mafia groups (1.5) compared to Malaysia (4.5). However, both countries have similar scores for human trafficking and smuggling.
