Thailand is generally considered a relatively safe destination for tourists, including those from Sri Lanka. According to the Global Peace Index, Thailand ranks 73rd out of 160 countries, which is better than Sri Lanka's rank of 99th. In terms of crime statistics, the murder rate in Thailand is 4.9 per 100,000 people, compared to Sri Lanka's 3.5. However, female murder rates are lower in Thailand at 1.2 compared to Sri Lanka's 2.2. When looking at organized crime, Thailand scores better in terms of mafia presence (1.5) compared to Sri Lanka (4.0).
