Thailand is an appealing destination for visitors from Brunei, thanks to its vibrant culture, warm hospitality, rich history, delicious cuisine, and beautiful beaches. While it attracts a variety of international tourists, its overall ranking in tourist arrivals is modest. Nonetheless, it offers unique experiences that may interest a segment of Brunei's population.
Thailand is generally safe for tourists, including those from Brunei, but it is important to be aware of certain safety concerns. According to the Global Peace Index, Thailand ranks 73rd out of 160 countries, indicating some challenges in safety. In terms of crime statistics, Thailand has a higher murder rate at 4.9 per 100,000 people compared to Brunei's 0.5. Both countries have the same female murder rate of 1.2. Regarding organized crime, Thailand scores higher on various indices, indicating more significant issues with crime networks and human trafficking. For example, Thailand has a mafia group index of 1.5 (Brunei: 1.0) and a human trafficking index of 6.5 (Brunei: 4.5). While these statistics suggest that tourists should remain vigilant, many travelers visit Thailand without incident. It is advisable to stay informed and take standard safety precautions while traveling.
