Frequently asked questions

How attractive is Syria as a destination for visitors from Netherlands?

Syria offers a unique blend of historical significance and natural beauty, making it an intriguing option for some Dutch travelers. While its turbulent history may deter many, a segment of the 22.1 million Dutch who travel abroad annually may find it appealing.

Please answer the following question: How safe is Syria for tourists coming from Netherlands?

Syria is currently considered unsafe for tourists, including those from the Netherlands. The country ranks 153rd out of 160 in the Global Peace Index, indicating significant safety concerns compared to the Netherlands, which ranks 18th. Additionally, the murder rate in Syria is higher at 2.2 per 100,000 people, compared to the Netherlands' rate of 0.7. Crime indices further illustrate the disparity: while the Netherlands has relatively low scores across various crime categories, Syria scores poorly, particularly in areas like organized crime (9.0 for crime networks and 10.0 for state crime). Given these factors, it is advisable for tourists from the Netherlands to avoid traveling to Syria at this time.
