Syria offers a unique blend of historical significance and natural beauty, making it an intriguing option for some Bahraini travelers. With around 500,000 Bahrainis traveling abroad annually, a portion may find Syria appealing despite its complex history.
Syria is currently considered unsafe for tourists, including those from Bahrain. According to the Global Peace Index, Syria ranks 153rd out of 160 countries, significantly lower than Bahrain's ranking of 79th. The murder rate in Syria is 2.2 per 100,000 people, compared to Bahrain's very low rate of 0.1. Additionally, the Global Organized Crime Index indicates that Syria faces serious challenges with organized crime, scoring much higher than Bahrain in various categories. For instance, Syria has a mafia group index of 4.5, crime networks at 9.0, and state crime at the worst score of 10.0, while Bahrain scores significantly better across these metrics. Overall, the safety conditions in Syria are concerning, and potential tourists should exercise extreme caution and consider alternative destinations.
