Suriname offers a unique blend of ecological diversity and cultural richness, making it an intriguing destination for some Turkish travelers. While its tourism sector is smaller than that of more popular destinations, it plays a significant role in the country's economy and international relations. With 2.7 million Turks traveling abroad annually, there is potential interest in visiting Suriname among this group.
Suriname's safety for tourists from Türkiye can be assessed through various crime statistics. While Türkiye has a murder rate of 2.5 per 100,000 people, Suriname's rate is higher at 5.7. Additionally, the female murder rate in Türkiye is 1.0 compared to Suriname's 2.3. In terms of organized crime, Türkiye scores higher in several categories, such as mafia groups (8.0) and state crime (9.0), while Suriname has lower scores in these areas (2.5 and 8.0, respectively). However, Suriname has a higher score for cocaine trade (8.5) compared to Türkiye (4.0), indicating a significant presence of this issue. Overall, while specific safety data for Suriname is limited, the higher murder rates and certain organized crime indices suggest that tourists from Türkiye should exercise caution when visiting Suriname.
