1 mission of Suriname in Saudi Arabia: Consulate of Suriname in Ad Dammam, Saudi Arabia. Addresses, phones and contacts.
Head of mission: Mr. Khalid H. Khusheim, Honorary Consul (confirmed in the diplomatic list of Suriname, 10 Dec 2024)
Suriname, located on South America's northeastern coast, offers unique ecological diversity and a rich cultural landscape, making it an intriguing option for some Saudi travelers. While its tourism industry is smaller compared to more popular destinations, it still plays an important role in the country's economy and international relations. Given that approximately 4.8 million Saudis travel abroad annually, a portion may find Suriname appealing.
Suriname presents certain safety concerns for tourists, including those from Saudi Arabia. While Saudi Arabia has a low murder rate of 0.8 per 100,000 people, Suriname's rate is significantly higher at 5.7. Additionally, female murder rates are also elevated in Suriname at 2.3 compared to Saudi Arabia's 0.3. In terms of organized crime, Suriname scores better on mafia presence (2.5 vs. 3.0) but worse on crime networks (5.0 vs. 6.5) and foreign crime (5.5 vs. 3.0). Both countries have similar scores for state crime at 8.0. Notably, Suriname has a higher risk for resource crime (9.0) and cocaine trade (8.5) compared to Saudi Arabia. Overall, while Suriname has some favorable aspects regarding organized crime, its higher murder rates and specific crime indices suggest that tourists should exercise caution and remain aware of their surroundings while visiting.
