Sierra Leone offers a unique blend of natural beauty and cultural diversity, making it an appealing destination for some Turkish travelers. With 2.7 million Turks traveling abroad annually, a portion may find Sierra Leone's pristine beaches and lush hills intriguing, despite the country's modest tourism industry.
Sierra Leone is generally considered a relatively safe destination for tourists, including those from Türkiye. According to the Global Peace Index, Sierra Leone ranks 64th out of 160 countries, which is better than Türkiye's ranking of 137th. In terms of murder rates, Sierra Leone has a lower rate at 2.1 per 100,000 people compared to Türkiye's 2.5. While there is limited data on specific safety metrics for Sierra Leone, the country has a lower score in organized crime indices compared to Türkiye, indicating a somewhat safer environment regarding organized crime activities. For instance, Sierra Leone scores 3.5 for mafia groups and 5.5 for crime networks, while Türkiye scores 8.0 and 7.5 respectively. Overall, while there are safety considerations to keep in mind, Sierra Leone appears to be a safer option for tourists compared to Türkiye based on available statistics.
