Sierra Leone offers a unique blend of natural beauty and cultural diversity, featuring pristine beaches and lush hills. While its tourism industry is still developing, it has the potential to attract a segment of the 12.4 million Russians who travel abroad annually. Some of these travelers may find Sierra Leone an appealing destination.
Sierra Leone is generally considered a relatively safe destination for tourists, including those coming from Russia. According to the Global Peace Index, Sierra Leone ranks 64th out of 160 countries, which is significantly better than Russia's ranking of 154th. In terms of crime statistics, Sierra Leone has a lower murder rate of 2.1 per 100,000 people compared to Russia's 6.8. Additionally, the Global Organized Crime Index indicates that Sierra Leone's crime environment is less severe in several categories, with lower scores in mafia presence and arms trafficking, among others. While there is limited data specifically for tourists walking alone at night in Sierra Leone, the overall safety indicators suggest that it may be a safer option compared to Russia. However, as with any travel, it is advisable for tourists to remain vigilant and informed about local conditions.
