Sierra Leone offers a unique blend of natural beauty and cultural diversity, featuring pristine beaches and lush hills. While its tourism industry is still developing, it presents potential appeal for a segment of Ghana's 33 million population, making it an intriguing destination for some visitors from Ghana.
Sierra Leone is generally considered a relatively safe destination for tourists, ranked 64th out of 160 countries on the Global Peace Index. However, it is slightly less safe than Ghana, which ranks 54th. In terms of crime statistics, the murder rate in Sierra Leone is 2.1 per 100,000 people, compared to Ghana's lower rate of 1.8. While both countries face challenges with organized crime, Sierra Leone has a better score for arms trafficking (3.5) compared to Ghana (5.0) and lower scores in other categories such as human trafficking and drug trade. Overall, while Sierra Leone is relatively safe, tourists from Ghana should remain vigilant and take standard safety precautions while traveling.
