Sierra Leone offers a unique blend of natural beauty and cultural diversity, featuring pristine beaches and lush hills. While its tourism industry is still developing, it presents potential appeal for a segment of Ethiopia's 123 million population.
Sierra Leone is generally considered a relatively safe destination for tourists, especially when compared to Ethiopia. According to the Global Peace Index, Sierra Leone ranks 64th out of 160 countries, while Ethiopia is ranked 142nd. The murder rate in Sierra Leone is significantly lower at 2.1 per 100,000 people, compared to Ethiopia's rate of 8.8. In terms of organized crime, Sierra Leone has a lower index for mafia groups (3.5 vs. Ethiopia's 2.0) and arms trafficking (3.5 vs. Ethiopia's 7.0). However, Sierra Leone does have higher indices for state crime and foreign crime. Overall, while there are some crime concerns in Sierra Leone, it is considered safer for tourists than Ethiopia. Visitors should remain aware of their surroundings and take standard safety precautions while traveling.
