Slovakia offers a unique appeal for Australian visitors, showcasing a rich mix of history, natural beauty, and cultural experiences. While the number of arrivals fluctuates, the country’s blend of traditional and modern tourism facilities has successfully drawn millions of tourists. Given that around 300,000 Australians travel internationally each year, a portion of them may find Slovakia an intriguing destination worth exploring.
Slovakia is generally considered a safe destination for tourists, including those from Australia. It ranks 12th among 40 European countries for safety while walking alone at night. According to the Global Peace Index, Slovakia is ranked 27th out of 160 countries, which indicates a relatively safe environment, although it is less safe than Australia, which ranks 19th. In terms of crime statistics, Slovakia has a murder rate of 1.0 per 100,000 people, compared to Australia's 0.7. Female murder rates are also higher in Slovakia (0.6) than in Australia (0.4). Regarding organized crime, Slovakia has a lower score for mafia groups (3.0) compared to Australia (5.0), but higher scores in areas like state crime (6.5) and human trafficking (5.5). Overall, while Slovakia is relatively safe, tourists should remain vigilant and aware of their surroundings, as they would in any foreign country.
