Singapore is a compelling destination for some of Malaysia's 34 million residents, offering a unique mix of rich history and modern attractions. Although it sees a modest number of international visitors, it effectively capitalizes on its tourism potential, reflected in high tourist spending per visitor.
Singapore is considered very safe for tourists, including those coming from Malaysia. According to the Global Peace Index, Singapore ranks 5th out of 160 countries, making it one of the safest nations globally. In comparison, Malaysia ranks 10th. When looking at crime statistics, Singapore has a significantly lower murder rate of 0.1 per 100,000 people, compared to Malaysia's 0.7. Additionally, various organized crime indices also show Singapore performing better in several categories, such as state crime (Singapore: 1.5 vs. Malaysia: 6.0) and human smuggling (Singapore: 2.5 vs. Malaysia: 7.0). Overall, both countries are relatively safe, but Singapore has lower crime rates and a more favorable standing in organized crime assessments, making it a secure destination for tourists.
