Sweden is an appealing destination for some Ukrainian visitors due to its stunning landscapes and lively cities, supported by a strong tourism infrastructure. While it attracts a modest number of international tourists, its reputation as a quality destination may resonate with a segment of the 11 million Ukrainians who travel abroad annually.
Sweden is generally considered a safe destination for tourists, including those from Ukraine. According to the Global Peace Index, Sweden ranks 39th out of 160 countries, indicating a relatively high level of safety compared to Ukraine, which ranks 156th. In terms of crime statistics, Sweden has a lower murder rate of 1.1 per 100,000 people compared to Ukraine's 3.8. Additionally, Sweden's rates for female murders are also lower, with 0.5 per 100,000 people versus Ukraine's 1.9. While Sweden is ranked 36th out of 40 European countries for safety while walking alone at night, it remains a safer option compared to Ukraine. Organized crime indices show that Sweden generally has lower scores in various crime categories compared to Ukraine, particularly in state crime and human trafficking. Overall, while no place is entirely without risk, Sweden is a safer choice for tourists compared to Ukraine.
