Sweden is an appealing destination for some Turkish visitors, thanks to its beautiful landscapes and lively cities, along with a strong tourism infrastructure. While it attracts a modest number of international tourists, its reputation as a quality niche destination could entice a segment of the 2.7 million Turks who travel abroad annually to consider Sweden for their travels.
Sweden is generally considered a safe destination for tourists, including those from Türkiye. According to the Global Peace Index, Sweden ranks 39th out of 160 countries, indicating a relatively high level of safety. In contrast, Türkiye ranks 137th, suggesting that Sweden is significantly safer in this regard. However, when it comes to safety while walking alone at night, Sweden ranks 36th out of 40 countries, which is lower than Türkiye's 31st position. In terms of crime statistics, Sweden has a lower murder rate of 1.1 per 100,000 people compared to Türkiye's 2.5. Additionally, Sweden scores better in various organized crime indices, particularly in state crime (2.5 for Sweden vs. 9.0 for Türkiye) and human trafficking (4.5 for Sweden vs. 7.0 for Türkiye). While both countries have their safety concerns, Sweden is generally regarded as a safer option for tourists compared to Türkiye, especially in terms of violent crime and organized crime.
