Sweden offers a unique appeal for Mauritian visitors, thanks to its stunning landscapes and lively cities, supported by a strong tourism infrastructure. While it attracts a modest number of international tourists, it stands out as a niche destination known for quality experiences. Given that around 100,000 Mauritians travel abroad annually, a portion may find Sweden an intriguing option to explore.
Sweden is generally considered a safe destination for tourists, including those from Mauritius. According to the Global Peace Index, Sweden ranks 39th out of 160 countries, indicating a relatively high level of safety, although it is less safe compared to Mauritius, which ranks 22nd. In terms of specific crime statistics, Sweden has a lower murder rate of 1.1 per 100,000 people compared to Mauritius's rate of 2.6. However, when it comes to safety while walking alone at night, Sweden ranks 36th among 40 European countries, suggesting some concerns in that area. Additionally, the Global Organized Crime Index shows that Mauritius generally has lower indices for various crime categories compared to Sweden, particularly in terms of mafia presence and resource crime. Overall, while Sweden is safe for tourists, visitors should remain aware of their surroundings, especially at night.
