Sudan offers a unique blend of historical and archaeological attractions, making it an appealing destination for some Omani travelers. With 1.1 million Omanis traveling abroad annually, a portion may find Sudan's rich heritage and modern features worth exploring.
Sudan is generally considered less safe for tourists compared to Oman. According to the Global Peace Index, Sudan ranks 159th out of 160 countries, while Oman is ranked 37th. The murder rate in Sudan is significantly higher at 5.1 per 100,000 people, compared to Oman's rate of 0.2. In terms of organized crime, Sudan also scores poorly across various categories. For instance, mafia groups are rated 6.5 in Sudan compared to 1.0 in Oman. Other crime indices show that Sudan has higher scores in areas such as crime networks (7.5), state crime (8.0), and human trafficking (8.0), indicating a more challenging safety environment. Overall, tourists from Oman should exercise caution when considering travel to Sudan due to these safety concerns.
