Seychelles is an appealing destination for some travelers from the Netherlands, thanks to its breathtaking islands, beautiful beaches, and clear waters. With around 200,000 international visitors each year, it offers a tranquil escape that could attract a segment of the 22.1 million Dutch citizens who travel abroad annually.
Seychelles presents a mixed safety profile for tourists from the Netherlands. While the Netherlands ranks 9th in safety for walking alone at night among European countries and 18th globally according to the Global Peace Index, Seychelles lacks specific safety data. However, comparing crime statistics reveals some concerns: the murder rate in Seychelles is significantly higher at 4.7 per 100,000 people, compared to the Netherlands' 0.7. Female murder rates are also notably higher in Seychelles (5.4) versus the Netherlands (0.4). In terms of organized crime, Seychelles scores better in mafia presence (2.0) but has higher indices for human trafficking (4.0) and heroin trade (7.5) compared to the Netherlands. Overall, while Seychelles is a popular tourist destination, travelers should exercise caution and stay informed about local safety conditions.
