Seychelles is an appealing destination for some Maldivians, offering stunning islands, beautiful beaches, and clear waters. With around 200,000 international visitors each year, it provides a serene escape and luxurious relaxation that could attract a segment of the Maldivian population of 1 million.
Seychelles is generally considered safe for tourists, but it has a higher murder rate compared to the Maldives, with 4.7 per 100,000 people in Seychelles versus 0.6 in the Maldives. Additionally, female murder rates are also higher in Seychelles (5.4) compared to the Maldives (2.6). Regarding organized crime, Seychelles scores better in some areas, such as mafia groups (2.0 vs. Maldives 5.0) and human smuggling (3.5 vs. Maldives 5.5). However, it has a higher score for heroin trade (7.5) compared to the Maldives (6.0). While there are some safety concerns, many tourists visit Seychelles without issues.
