Saudi Arabia offers a rich cultural heritage and significant religious sites, making it an increasingly attractive destination for travelers. With ongoing investments in tourism infrastructure aimed at diversifying its economy, it appeals to a segment of the 500,000 Cypriots who travel abroad annually, some of whom may find Saudi Arabia appealing.
Saudi Arabia presents a mixed safety profile for tourists from Cyprus. According to the Global Peace Index, Saudi Arabia ranks 100th out of 160 countries, indicating it is less safe than Cyprus, which ranks 86th. While the murder rate in Saudi Arabia is lower at 0.8 per 100,000 people compared to Cyprus's 1.3, other crime indices suggest higher risks in various areas. Cyprus generally enjoys a safer environment, with lower organized crime indices across several categories. For instance, Cyprus scores better in state crime (4.0 vs. 8.0 in Saudi Arabia) and human trafficking (5.5 vs. 8.5). However, Saudi Arabia has a lower murder rate for females (0.3) compared to Cyprus (1.1). In summary, while Saudi Arabia may have lower murder rates, it ranks lower in overall safety compared to Cyprus, and tourists should remain vigilant and informed about local conditions and cultural norms when visiting.
