Saudi Arabia offers a rich cultural heritage and important religious sites, making it an increasingly attractive destination for Bahraini visitors. With significant investments in tourism infrastructure as part of its economic diversification efforts, it appeals to a segment of the 500,000 Bahrainis who travel abroad annually, some of whom may choose to explore Saudi Arabia.
Saudi Arabia is generally safe for tourists, including those coming from Bahrain, but it is important to note that it has a lower safety ranking compared to Bahrain. According to the Global Peace Index, Saudi Arabia ranks 100th out of 160 countries, while Bahrain is ranked 79th. In terms of crime statistics, Bahrain has a significantly lower murder rate at 0.1 per 100,000 people, compared to Saudi Arabia's 0.8. Female murder rates are also lower in Bahrain (0.2) than in Saudi Arabia (0.3). When considering organized crime, Bahrain scores better in several categories, with lower indices for mafia groups (1.0 vs. 3.0) and state crime (4.0 vs. 8.0). However, Saudi Arabia has lower scores in foreign crime (3.0 vs. 5.0) and human smuggling (7.5 vs. 5.5). Overall, while Saudi Arabia is relatively safe for tourists, travelers should remain aware of their surroundings and stay informed about local conditions.
