Rwanda, known as the "Land of a Thousand Hills," offers rich biodiversity and cultural heritage, making it an appealing destination for international travelers. Its famous mountain gorillas and stunning landscapes enhance its attractiveness. While the tourism sector has demonstrated impressive growth, there are still challenges to overcome. Overall, Rwanda could be a compelling option for a segment of Zambia's 20 million population.
Rwanda is generally considered safe for tourists, including those coming from Zambia. According to the Global Peace Index, Rwanda ranks 90th out of 160 countries, while Zambia ranks higher at 55th. In terms of murder rates, Rwanda has a lower rate at 3.6 per 100,000 people compared to Zambia's 5.4. The Global Organized Crime Index indicates that Rwanda has a lower score in several categories related to organized crime. For instance, Rwanda scores 1.0 for mafia groups, while Zambia scores 3.0. However, both countries face challenges with state crime and human trafficking, with similar scores. Overall, while Rwanda is relatively safe, travelers should remain aware of their surroundings and stay informed about local conditions.
