Rwanda is an appealing destination for some Ethiopians due to its rich biodiversity and cultural heritage. Known for its mountain gorillas and stunning landscapes, the country has made significant strides in developing its tourism sector. However, it still faces challenges in maximizing its tourism potential, which may limit its attractiveness to the entire Ethiopian population of 123 million.
Rwanda is generally considered safe for tourists, including those coming from Ethiopia. According to the Global Peace Index, Rwanda ranks 90th out of 160 countries, significantly safer than Ethiopia, which ranks 142nd. In terms of murder rates, Rwanda has a rate of 3.6 per 100,000 people, compared to Ethiopia's 8.8. The Global Organized Crime Index also indicates that Rwanda has lower levels of organized crime compared to Ethiopia. For example, Rwanda scores 1.0 for mafia groups (with 1 being the best), while Ethiopia scores 2.0. Additionally, Rwanda has a score of 3.0 for crime networks, whereas Ethiopia scores 6.5. Overall, the statistics suggest that Rwanda is a safer destination for tourists compared to Ethiopia.
