Russia offers a diverse range of cultural and natural attractions that can appeal to some Senegalese visitors. While it attracts around 6.4 million foreign tourists each year, its appeal lies more in the variety of experiences available rather than sheer numbers. Thus, it may be an intriguing destination for a segment of Senegal's 17 million population.
Russia's safety for tourists from Senegal can be assessed through various rankings and statistics. According to safety rankings, Russia is 30th out of 40 European countries for safety when walking alone at night, while Senegal ranks 82nd globally in the Global Peace Index, where Russia is significantly lower at 154th out of 160 countries. In terms of crime rates, the murder rate in Russia is notably higher at 6.8 per 100,000 people compared to Senegal's 0.3. Additionally, Russia has a higher incidence of female murders at 3.3 per 100,000. The Global Organized Crime Index also indicates that Russia faces more organized crime challenges, with higher indices in various categories compared to Senegal. For example, Russia scores 4.5 for mafia groups and 8.5 for state crime, whereas Senegal scores 2.5 and 4.5, respectively. Overall, while tourists from Senegal may visit Russia, they should be aware that Russia is generally considered less safe than Senegal based on these statistics.
