Russia offers a rich array of cultural and natural attractions that can appeal to Moldovan visitors. While it attracts around 6.4 million foreign tourists each year, its appeal lies in the diversity of experiences available. Among the 200,000 Moldovans who travel abroad annually, some may find Russia to be an intriguing destination.
Russia's safety for tourists from Moldova presents a mixed picture. According to safety rankings, Russia is 30th out of 40 countries for safety while walking alone at night, which is comparable to Moldova's 33rd position. However, the Global Peace Index ranks Russia 154th out of 160 countries, indicating a significantly lower safety level compared to Moldova, which ranks 61st. In terms of crime statistics, Moldova has a lower murder rate of 2.3 per 100,000 people, compared to Russia's 6.8. The rates for female murders also reflect this trend, with Moldova at 1.2 and Russia at 3.3. Organized crime indices further highlight the differences: while Moldova scores better in several categories, including mafia groups (4.0 vs. 4.5) and crime networks (4.0 vs. 7.5), Russia shows higher scores in state crime (8.5) and human trafficking (6.5). In summary, while Russia may be comparable to Moldova in certain aspects of safety, overall, it presents more significant risks, particularly regarding violent crime and organized crime activities. Tourists should exercise caution and stay informed about their surroundings.
