Romania has emerged as an appealing destination for tourists, featuring a rich cultural heritage, historical sites, and stunning natural landscapes. With around 6.8 million foreign visitors annually, it ranks highly in regional tourism, thanks to its medieval towns, gothic castles, and the Carpathian Mountains. This makes it an attractive option for a segment of the 3 million people from Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Romania is generally considered a safe destination for tourists, including those from Bosnia and Herzegovina. It ranks 19th out of 40 countries for safety while walking alone at night, making it safer than Bosnia and Herzegovina, which ranks 23rd. In the Global Peace Index, Romania is ranked 36th out of 160 countries, again safer than Bosnia and Herzegovina, which is ranked 59th. Regarding crime statistics, the murder rate in Romania is slightly higher at 1.3 per 100,000 people compared to Bosnia and Herzegovina's 1.0. However, various organized crime indices indicate that Romania has lower scores in several categories, such as state crime (3.5 for Romania vs. 8.0 for Bosnia and Herzegovina) and foreign crime (4.0 for Romania vs. 8.0 for Bosnia and Herzegovina). Overall, while both countries have their challenges, Romania is statistically safer for tourists.
