Qatar is becoming an appealing destination for visitors from Mauritania due to its unique combination of modernity and cultural heritage, alongside stunning desert and urban scenery. Although the number of tourists is moderate, Qatar's high tourist spending per visitor highlights its appeal as a high-value destination. This makes it particularly attractive to a segment of the 5 million Mauritanians.
Qatar is considered a safe destination for tourists, including those from Mauritania. According to the Global Peace Index, Qatar ranks 29th out of 160 countries, significantly safer than Mauritania, which ranks 93rd. The murder rate in Qatar is notably low at 0.3 per 100,000 people, compared to Mauritania's 1.0. In terms of organized crime, Qatar generally has lower indices in various categories compared to Mauritania, indicating a safer environment. For example, Qatar scores 1.0 for mafia groups (Mauritania: 2.5) and has a lower score for state crime (6.0 for both, but with other categories favoring Qatar).
