Qatar is becoming an appealing destination for visitors from Iraq due to its unique combination of modernity and cultural heritage, along with its stunning desert and urban scenery. Although the number of tourists is moderate, Qatar attracts high spending per visitor, highlighting its status as a premium destination. It may particularly appeal to a segment of Iraq's 44 million population.
Qatar is generally considered a safe destination for tourists, including those from Iraq. According to the Global Peace Index, Qatar ranks 29th out of 160 countries, significantly safer than Iraq, which ranks 148th. In terms of crime statistics, Qatar has a very low murder rate of 0.3 per 100,000 people, compared to Iraq's rate of 10.1. The safety indices from the Global Organized Crime Index further illustrate this disparity, with Qatar scoring much better in categories such as mafia groups (1.0 vs. 6.5 in Iraq) and overall organized crime (6.0 vs. 7.5 in Iraq). While Qatar does face some challenges, such as human trafficking and smuggling, its overall crime rates and safety rankings indicate that it is a much safer environment for tourists than Iraq.
