Portugal is a vibrant destination known for its cultural richness and natural beauty, appealing to many tourists worldwide. Recent trends show a gradual increase in foreign tourist arrivals, highlighting its enduring attractiveness. For Indonesian travelers, who number around 500,000 annually, Portugal presents an appealing option, with a portion likely to be interested in exploring what the country has to offer.
Portugal is generally considered safe for tourists, including those from Indonesia. It ranks 15th among 40 European countries for safety while walking alone at night. According to the Global Peace Index, Portugal is the 7th safest country globally, significantly safer than Indonesia, which ranks 47th. In terms of crime statistics, the murder rate in Portugal is slightly higher at 0.8 per 100,000 people compared to Indonesia's 0.6. However, various organized crime indices indicate that Portugal has lower levels of organized crime compared to Indonesia in several categories, including mafia presence and human trafficking. Overall, while both countries have their challenges, Portugal offers a safer environment for tourists.
