Portugal is an appealing destination for many Cape Verdeans, offering a rich blend of culture and natural beauty. Although tourist arrivals have varied over time, recent trends show a gradual increase in visitors. This makes Portugal particularly attractive to a segment of the approximately one million people from Cabo Verde.
Portugal is considered a safe destination for tourists, including those coming from Cabo Verde. It ranks 15th among 40 European countries for safety while walking alone at night and holds a strong position as the 7th safest country globally according to the Global Peace Index. In terms of crime statistics, Portugal has a significantly lower murder rate at 0.8 per 100,000 people compared to Cabo Verde's 6.5. Additionally, the indices from the Global Organized Crime Index indicate that Portugal generally has a higher level of safety regarding organized crime and trafficking activities compared to Cabo Verde. Overall, tourists from Cabo Verde can feel secure while visiting Portugal, although it's always advisable to exercise standard safety precautions while traveling.
