Although the popularity of the country has varied, recent trends show a gradual increase in foreign tourist arrivals. With 20.3 million Chinese traveling abroad annually, a portion of these travelers may find Portugal an intriguing option to explore.
Portugal is generally considered a safe destination for tourists, including those from China. It ranks 7th out of 160 countries on the Global Peace Index, indicating a high level of safety. In terms of walking alone at night, Portugal is ranked 15th among 40 European countries, although specific data for China is not available. When comparing crime statistics, Portugal has a murder rate of 0.8 per 100,000 people, slightly higher than China's rate of 0.5. However, Portugal's organized crime indices are generally lower than those of China, suggesting a more favorable environment regarding organized crime and safety. Overall, while no country is without risks, Portugal is regarded as a safer option for tourists compared to many other nations, including China.
