Portugal offers a vibrant mix of cultural richness and natural beauty, making it an appealing destination for some Armenian travelers. With around 300,000 Armenians traveling abroad annually, a portion may find Portugal's unique attractions worth exploring, especially as the country experiences a gradual increase in foreign tourist arrivals.
Portugal is generally considered a safe destination for tourists, including those from Armenia. It ranks 15th among 40 European countries for safety while walking alone at night, although specific data for Armenia is not available. According to the Global Peace Index, Portugal is the 7th safest country out of 160, significantly safer than Armenia, which ranks 74th. In terms of crime statistics, Portugal has a lower murder rate of 0.8 per 100,000 people compared to Armenia's 2.2. Female murder rates also reflect this trend, with Portugal at 0.6 and Armenia at 0.9. The Global Organized Crime Index indicates that while both countries face challenges, Portugal generally has higher indices (indicating worse conditions) in areas like crime networks and foreign crime compared to Armenia. However, Armenia shows higher indices in areas such as human trafficking and arms trafficking. Overall, tourists from Armenia can feel relatively safe when visiting Portugal, given its lower crime rates and high safety rankings.
