Poland is an appealing destination for many Latvian visitors. Its rich cultural history and vibrant cities, such as Krakow and Warsaw, alongside its stunning natural landscapes like the Tatra Mountains, make it an attractive option. With around 500,000 Latvians traveling abroad annually, a portion of them is likely to consider Poland for their travels.
Poland is generally considered a safe destination for tourists, including those coming from Latvia. It ranks 20th out of 40 European countries for safety while walking alone at night, which is better than Latvia's ranking of 25th. According to the Global Peace Index, Poland is ranked 32nd out of 160 countries, comparable to Latvia's 30th position. In terms of crime statistics, Poland has a lower murder rate of 0.7 per 100,000 people, compared to Latvia's 3.0. This trend continues with female murder rates, where Poland has 0.4 versus Latvia's 3.6. When examining organized crime, Poland generally fares better in several categories, such as mafia groups (Poland 2.0 vs. Latvia 3.5) and state crime (Poland 3.5 vs. Latvia 2.0). However, both countries face challenges with crime networks and human trafficking. Overall, while both countries have their issues, Poland is statistically safer for tourists compared to Latvia.
