Pakistan offers a rich cultural heritage and stunning natural landscapes, making it an appealing destination for travelers. Its evolving tourism infrastructure, with around 3,000 hotels listed on TripAdvisor, indicates a growing capacity to host diverse visitors. Given that approximately 1 million Portuguese travel abroad annually, a portion may find Pakistan an intriguing option for their travels.
Pakistan's safety for tourists, including those from Portugal, is generally considered lower compared to Portugal. While Portugal ranks 7th in the Global Peace Index and has a low murder rate of 0.8 per 100,000 people, Pakistan is ranked 138th out of 160 countries with a higher murder rate of 4.0 per 100,000. Crime statistics indicate that organized crime is more prevalent in Pakistan, with higher indices in areas such as human trafficking (8.0), arms trafficking (8.0), and drug trade (8.5 for heroin). In contrast, Portugal has significantly lower indices across these categories, indicating a safer environment. Overall, while tourists can visit Pakistan, they should exercise caution and stay informed about local conditions and safety advisories.
