Pakistan offers a rich cultural heritage and stunning natural landscapes, making it an appealing destination for travelers. Its evolving tourism infrastructure, with nearly 3,000 hotels available on TripAdvisor, indicates a growing capacity to host visitors. Among the 5 million Canadians who travel abroad annually, some may find Pakistan an intriguing option.
Pakistan's safety for tourists, especially those coming from Canada, is a concern. According to the Global Peace Index, Pakistan ranks 138th out of 160 countries, significantly lower than Canada, which ranks 11th. In terms of crime statistics, the murder rate in Pakistan is 4.0 per 100,000 people, compared to Canada's much lower rate of 2.1. Additionally, various organized crime indices indicate higher levels of crime in Pakistan, with scores such as 7.5 for crime networks and 8.0 for human trafficking, compared to Canada's scores of 4.0 and 3.5 respectively. While many tourists visit Pakistan without incident, it is advisable for travelers to stay informed about local conditions, exercise caution, and follow travel advisories from their government.
