Pakistan offers a rich tapestry of culture and stunning landscapes, making it an appealing destination for travelers. Its tourism infrastructure is improving, with around 3,000 hotels available on TripAdvisor, catering to various visitor needs. With approximately 300,000 Australians traveling internationally each year, a segment of this group may find Pakistan an intriguing option to explore.
Pakistan's safety for tourists, particularly those from Australia, is a concern based on various safety indices. According to the Global Peace Index, Pakistan ranks 138th out of 160 countries, significantly lower than Australia's 19th position. In terms of crime statistics, the murder rate in Pakistan is 4.0 per 100,000 people, compared to Australia's 0.7. Additionally, the Global Organized Crime Index indicates higher levels of organized crime in Pakistan, with indices showing worse performance in areas such as human trafficking (8.0), arms trafficking (8.0), and state crime (7.0) compared to Australia's lower scores. While tourism is possible in Pakistan, travelers should be aware of the safety challenges and take necessary precautions.
