Head of mission: Mr. Mikhail Arguelles, Consul ad honorem (confirmed in the diplomatic list of Philippines, 7 Dec 2024)
The Philippines is an appealing destination for some Belizeans, thanks to its stunning landscapes and vibrant cultural heritage. Despite a recent decline in tourist numbers, the country's beautiful islands, featuring turquoise waters and white sandy beaches, remain attractive to those seeking unique and exotic experiences.
The safety of the Philippines for tourists from Belize can be assessed through various crime statistics. The Philippines ranks 102nd out of 160 countries on the Global Peace Index, indicating moderate safety levels. In terms of murder rates, Belize has a significantly higher rate at 31.2 per 100,000 people, compared to the Philippines' rate of 4.4. Regarding organized crime, the Philippines has higher indices in several categories, including mafia groups (8.0) and state crime (8.0), compared to Belize's scores of 6.5 and 4.5, respectively. However, Belize also has notable concerns with its own crime networks and murder rates. Overall, while the Philippines presents certain safety challenges, particularly related to organized crime, its lower murder rate suggests a relatively safer environment for tourists compared to Belize. Travelers are advised to stay informed about specific regions and follow local guidance for safety.
