Peru offers a rich blend of history and natural beauty, making it an appealing destination for some Bruneians. Key attractions like Machu Picchu, the Andes, and the Amazon rainforest highlight the country's unique appeal, attracting tourists eager to experience its diverse landscapes and cultural heritage.
Peru's safety for tourists, including those from Brunei, presents some concerns. The Global Peace Index ranks Peru 97th out of 160 countries, indicating a moderate level of safety. In terms of crime statistics, Peru has a murder rate of 5.7 per 100,000 people, significantly higher than Brunei's rate of 0.5. Additionally, the Global Organized Crime Index shows that Peru faces various challenges, with higher indices in areas such as mafia groups (6.0), crime networks (8.0), and resource crime (9.0), compared to Brunei's much lower scores. While many tourists visit Peru without issues, it's advisable for travelers to stay informed and take standard safety precautions.
