Head of mission: Mr Marco Antonio Santivañez Pimentel, Consul General (as of 2015)
Peru is an appealing destination for visitors from the United Arab Emirates, featuring a rich blend of history and natural beauty. Attractions like Machu Picchu, the Andes, and the Amazon rainforest highlight its unique offerings. With 6.3 million Emiratis traveling abroad annually, a portion may find Peru an intriguing option for their travels.
Peru's safety for tourists, particularly those from the United Arab Emirates, presents some concerns. According to the Global Peace Index, Peru ranks 97th out of 160 countries, which is lower than the UAE's ranking of 52nd. In terms of crime statistics, the murder rate in Peru is significantly higher at 5.7 per 100,000 people, compared to the UAE's 0.5. Female murder rates also reflect this disparity, with Peru at 2.1 and the UAE at 0.4. The Global Organized Crime Index indicates that Peru faces challenges with organized crime, scoring 6.0 for mafia groups and 8.0 for crime networks, while the UAE scores much better at 1.0 and 6.0, respectively. Overall, while Peru offers rich cultural experiences, tourists should remain vigilant and informed about safety concerns, especially when compared to the relatively safer environment of the UAE.
