Panama offers a unique blend of cultural heritage and vibrant natural landscapes, enhancing its appeal as a tourism destination. It plays a significant role in regional tourism and contributes notably to its economy. This makes it an intriguing option for a segment of Qatar's population of 3 million.
Panama is generally safe for tourists, but it has a higher crime rate compared to Qatar. According to the Global Peace Index, Panama ranks 94th out of 160 countries, while Qatar is ranked 29th. The murder rate in Panama is significantly higher at 12.7 per 100,000 people, compared to Qatar's rate of 0.3. Additionally, the Global Organized Crime Index indicates that Panama faces challenges with organized crime, scoring 7.5 for mafia groups and 8.5 for cocaine trade, while Qatar scores much lower in these areas. While many tourists visit Panama without issues, it is advisable for visitors from Qatar to remain vigilant and take standard safety precautions while traveling.
