Panama offers a unique mix of cultural heritage and vibrant natural landscapes, enhancing its appeal as a tourism destination. It plays a significant role in regional tourism and contributes notably to its economy. As such, it could attract a segment of Haiti's 12 million population.
Panama is generally considered safer for tourists compared to Haiti. According to the Global Peace Index, Panama ranks 94th out of 160 countries, while Haiti ranks 141st. The murder rates are similar, with Panama at 12.7 per 100,000 people and Haiti at 13.0. However, when examining organized crime, Panama has slightly higher indices in certain areas, such as mafia groups (7.5 for Panama vs. 8.0 for Haiti) and human trafficking (8.0 for Panama vs. 6.5 for Haiti). Overall, while both countries face challenges, Panama offers a relatively safer environment for tourists.
