Panama offers a unique mix of cultural heritage and vibrant natural landscapes, enhancing its appeal as a tourism destination. It plays a significant role in regional tourism and attracts a variety of visitors. With around 300,000 Cubans traveling abroad annually, a portion of them may find Panama to be an appealing choice for their travels.
Panama is generally considered safe for tourists, including those coming from Cuba. According to the Global Peace Index, Panama ranks 94th out of 160 countries, while Cuba is ranked 96th, indicating similar levels of safety. However, it is important to note that Panama has a higher murder rate at 12.7 per 100,000 people compared to Cuba's 5.0. Other crime statistics show that while both countries face organized crime issues, Panama has higher indices in areas such as mafia groups (7.5) and crime networks (7.0) compared to Cuba (4.0 and 2.5 respectively). Overall, while both countries have their challenges, tourists can generally travel safely in Panama with the usual precautions.
